Gaspé, 1 January, 2010 - The 475th Anniversary Celebration of Jacques Cartier's arrival on American land held a last great public gathering yesterday in downtown Gaspé to wrap up a year full of festivities and unforgettable encounters.

Closing Night of the 475th Anniversary Celebration

The Corporation of the 2009 Gaspé Celebrations is preparing a fabulous night to close out this festive year. A retrospective of 2009, as well as songs and fireworks are on the schedule.

IN MEMORY OF SHE

Gaspé, November 24, 2009. - Today, a group of citizens presented a collective artistic project entitled In memory of She at the Musée de la Gaspésie. The project's Masterpiece Committee unveiled the scale model of the proposed art work: a sculpture by Gaspesian artist Renée Mao Clavet that pays homage to the Feminine and the contribution of women to the history of the Gaspé Peninsula.

Another unique instant in Gaspé as part of the celebrations of the 475th birthday of the arrival of Jacques Cartier on earth of America.

It is on Tuesday when the Olympic flame was passing through Gaspé. Five holders had privilege to throw out the Olympic torchlight across the streets of the city of Gaspé. The population answered call. In effect, about 500 persons waited for the holders throughout the course of the torch and about 1 300 others had gathered in Polyvalent C.E. Pouliot of Gaspé, where took place a big celebration. The official holder of the torch, mister Camille Huard delivered a nice message of hope to the crowd. The population and emotion were in date!

A unique voice, an incomparable show


Gaspé, September 8, 2009 - It was last Sunday, September 6, when the final show at the Hydro-Québec Homecoming Place was performed. Mr. Claude Dubois had the honour of closing the wonderful summer lineup of the Fêtes de Gaspé 2009 (Gaspé 2009 festivities), by offering us his show "Dubois, revu incorrigible" (Dubois, Incorrigible Revue) presented by Accent Meubles. He was obviously happy to have this privilege; he looked terrific and was in full voice.

In 1534, Jacques Cartier, discoverer of New France, sailed along the Gaspé coast from the mouth of the Restigouche River to the tip of Forillon, by way of Gaspé where he erected a cross on behalf of Francis I, King of France. Fisheries and Oceans Canada and the Corporation des Fêtes de Gaspé 2009 are proud to present the Jacques Cartier commemorative map showing the St. Malo explorer's route.
